MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - March 10, 2005 - Phil Wright has been elected as the chairman of the US Club Soccer Board of
Directors and will serve a two- year term US Club Soccer announced today.
Wright, the President and Director of Coaching at San Juan SC (CA), previously served as a Board of Director's co-chairman
during the last two years. Working as an attorney in Sacramento, Wright holds a USSF National "A" License and was named the
National Youth Coach of the Year in 1997.
"Phil has been instrumental in helping US Club Soccer grow into what it is today," said US Club Soccer Executive Director
Bill Sage. "We look forward to Phil and the board continuing to build US Club Soccer as a strong organization."
"I am honored to have been elected as Chairman of the US Club Soccer Board of Directors for the next two years," said Wright.
"I want to thank my fellow Board members for the confidence they have shown in my leadership and I look forward to working
with them and all of our members clubs in setting policy for the organization.
"My number one goal for the next two years is to get more of our member clubs actively involved in helping the Board set
policy. The strength of this organization does not come from the Chairman of the Board or the Board itself. Rather, the strength
of US Club Soccer is in the collective experiences, wisdom and good will of the thousands of soccer people involved in club
soccer throughout the United States.
"I want to take this opportunity to especially thank Derek Armstrong, with whom I have served as co- Chairman the last
2 years and the first Chairman of US Club Soccer. Derek and I have been on the Board since the inception of the organization
and obviously Derek is going to remain involved as a member of the Board. In addition, I look forward to working with Bill
Sage, our CEO and Ken Chartier and his entire staff at CCC Management in implementing programs consistent with the Board policies."
Joining Armstrong (Region IV) in being re-elected to the Board of Directors are Region I's Steve Freeman (Blackwatch Premier
SC - Albany, N.Y.), Region II's Mike Sweeny (Cleveland Whitecaps SC, Independence, Ohio) and Region III's Vicki Sanford (Brentwood
SC - Brentwood, Tenn.).
Current members of the Board of Directors, who have one year remaining on their terms, are Region I's Peter Bradley (Mass
Premier Soccer - Waltham, Mass.), Region II's Skip Grossman (Scott Gallagher SC - St. Louis, Mo.), Region III's John Rennie
(Triangle FC - Hillsborough, N.C.) and Region IV's Jim Rilatt (FC Portland - Portland, Ore.).
The full Board of Directors voted in the election to select a new board chairman. In the coming days, the board will elect
three members to serve two-year terms on the executive committee.

can qualify for a board seat. Members must have a current relationship with a member club consisting of at least eight teams,
at least five years coaching experience at a competitive level, and at least a USSF "B" coaching license or its NSCAA or international
equivalent.
